Called to Serve, Formed to Lead: Facilitator Training for Surviving Divorce

On Saturday, June 14, the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission (AFLC) returned to its original home at the Catholic Centre, Chaguanas, to host a training session for future facilitators of the Surviving Divorce programme, strengthening the Separated and Divorced Ministry of the Archdiocese.

The day began with Lectio Divina on the Gospel reading, inviting participants to share reflections with someone new. This initial act of vulnerability set the tone for the rest of the day.

Suzanne (Suzy) led a session on identity, exploring the question: What is the goal of growth? Her answer: To become more of who God created you to be. Participants were reminded that we are all on a lifelong mission. Each person is uniquely created, unrepeatable and irreplaceable, carrying a specific purpose not just for themselves, but for others. To know oneself is to encounter the God who dwells within.

Building on that foundation, Suzy introduced the concept of temperaments, drawing from Metanoia Catholic resources. This opened a deeper conversation around the question: Who are you? Each participant explored their temperaments along with the roles that they occupy in one aspect of their life.

After lunch and fellowship, participants engaged in a fun round of emotional Jenga, which served as a creative segue into the next phase, exploring key questions from the first session of the Surviving Divorce programme. Facilitators Zena and Pat guided the group through meaningful discussion and reflection.

The day concluded with a group conversation about the path ahead, with many participants committing to continued involvement in the ministry and the ongoing training and formation.
