SANTA CRUZ
Twenty-seven couples of the Holy Cross RC Church parish, Santa Cruz, who have been married for more than 25 years, each received an apostolic blessing as they renewed their marital vows on the feast of Sts Anne and Joachim.
Some 65 married couples, some of whom are involved in marriage preparation programmes, were at Emmaus Centre, Arima, on Saturday, October 12 to hear US marriage counsellor and author Dr Jim Healy. He shared on marriage preparation and on how to maintain a connection in marriage.
The Marriage Encounter (ME) movement has been in existence for the past 34 years. During this time we have seen many marriage unions grow ever stronger through couples’ participation in a ME weekend. These weekends have provided the “nutrients for the soil”, which has helped with the growth of these marriages.

It’s no secret that today’s marriages don’t seem to last.
The loving “I do” on the wedding day in front of a packed church of family and friends, is being replaced by the angry “I done!” told to the estranged spouse, sometimes in front of the marriage counsellor or divorce lawyer.
