Parents, what do you know about online porn, WiFi, spyware, firewalls, social networking sites and profanity filters? Do the terms “Net Nanny” and “cyber-bullying” mean anything to you? And the big question: does your child really need a smartphone or tablet?

These issues will be addressed during an Internet Safety Programme (ISP) at Arima Girls’ RC School, beginning Saturday, February 28 and continuing each Saturday until April 4. Start time is 10 a.m. The target audience is parents, guardians, teachers and other care-givers.

More parents in Tobago will be exposed to the “Common Sense Parenting” (CSP) programme run by the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission (AFLC) from early next year.

The announcement came at the November 15 graduation ceremony for 18 volunteer CSP trainers at the Catholic Centre, Chaguanas. A first group, numbering 50 trainers, graduated in November 2011.

29 persons trained for Parenting programmes

Through the sponsorship of Republic Bank Limited, the AFLC held two  Train the Trainer sessions over the weekend April 26 to 28. Common Sense Parenting (CSP) train the trainer was a 3-day workshop from April 26 to 28 at the Catholic Centre in Chaguanas. Holy Faith Convent, Couva is the latest school to embrace the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission’s Common Sense Parenting (CSP) programme.

For two days in late August senior students, and parents of new students were introduced to CSP during an orientation session held before the start of the new academic year.
