Divorce is never easy!

Divorce is never easy. It comes with emotional, legal, and social challenges that can feel overwhelming—particularly in a Catholic environment, where the experience can carry unique complexities. Recognising this, the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission hosted an Accompaniment with Divorce Coaching session on Saturday, November 9, with 25 persons, at the Living Water Community Café. The session, led by Divorce Coach Shelly Sadaphal, offered a safe space for healing and practical tools for moving forward. The day began with Mass.

Shelly opened the session by sharing her personal journey, detailing the emotional toll of divorce and the difficulties she faced, including the high financial costs. Her heartfelt story set the stage for a deeper understanding of how to navigate this life-changing experience.

She clarified the unique roles of a divorce coach, lawyer, and counsellor, explaining how each role complements each other during the legal and emotional aspects of divorce. Shelly also introduced participants to the stages of the emotional rollercoaster that often accompany divorce, underscoring the importance of processing each stage to move forward.

Participants gained practical tools to identify challenges, build new healthy habits, and establish boundaries. Shelly emphasised the necessity of staying connected to God and His creation as sources of strength and healing during this period.

An open forum fostered active engagement, with participants reflecting on their experiences and learning from each other. Feedback highlighted the session’s impact, with attendees describing it as “informative, empowering, and enjoyable.” Many appreciated the practical tips on topics such as budgeting and meal planning and found solace in the sense of community. One participant noted,

“This new resource of Divorce Coaching gave me hope,” while another shared, “Meeting others going through the same thing was comforting.”

Shelly will continue collaborating with the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission by offering her services in December 2024. For more information, contact us at familylife@catholictt.org or call 299-1047/ 235 5329.
